waterloo farm & bivane river lodge

A variety of fishing is offered both at Waterloo Farm and on the Bivane River.

Waterloo Farm offers three dams, ranging in size from 1/3 to two hectares.  The Bivane River has a 12km stretch allocated for fishermen.  For those not wanting to fish, who would prefer to do a day walk or short hike, there is beautiful scenery to take in, with ample opportunities for game viewing and bird watching.

Both the dams on Waterloo Farm and the Bivane River are regularly stocked with brown and rainbow trout, thereby ensuring a constant and healthy supply of fish.  The river is divided into fishing beats and managed in conjunction with the Balele Conservancy and Mondi Limited.

We offer fly-fishing only and have a CAR (catch and return) with barbless hooks policy. 

Fly-fishing tuition is available on request.

Excellent bass fishing can also be arranged on request.

• The Balelesberg offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, with over 280 recorded bird species making their homes in this area;
• The nearby Utrecht Balele Community Game Park offers more fantastic game viewing;
• Historical outings to sites such as Isandhlwana, Rorkes Drift, and Talana are all within an easy day's outing from the farm
• Ithala Game Reserve is also close by and offers a unique game viewing experience;
• Activities such as clay-pigeon shooting, 4 X 4 trails and horse-riding are on offer by prior arrangement;
• Nature walks and hikes are available both on the farm, at Bivane River Lodge and at the Utrecht Balele Community Game Park.
